Peter John McColl

Peter John McColl, 16, went missing from Berkeley, California on August 28, 1995.

Peter was last seen leaving his family's home in Berkeley at approximately 11:00 a.m.. He told his brother he was going to walk to the bus stop and go to Cody's Bookstore on Salon Avenue and Telegraph Avenue. He was never seen again

His wallet was discovered after he vanished but his identification was missing. He had left $100 cash in his room.

The driver of the transit bus claimed to investigators that Peter asked for directions to Montclair, California on the day he vanished. Montclair is a six-hour drive south from his home in Berkeley. The Bus driver saw Peter meet a teenager with blonde hair, an accent, and nicely dressed.

A cab driver also came forward and claimed to have driven a young man and a teenage girl to the airport to catch a plane. This claim has never been confirmed, and a records check at the airline has turned up nothing.

Peter may have tried to hitchhike to Montclair, or possibly left on his own accord, but his family says it is not like him to leave unexpectedly. Peter was an honors student and he loved guitar. He loved riding his mountain bike around  the hills of Berkeley, and was into poetry and music. His parents describe Peter as a deep thinker and spiritual. Foul play is possible.

If you have any information about the disappearance of Peter John McColl, please contact the Berkeley Police Department at 510-981-5900.
