Kathleen was reported missing by her mother. As a result of news coverage, a witness came forward and said they saw a woman getting into a yellow Volkwagon at approximately 1:45 am. The police had few leads to go on.

 

On Thanksgiving morning, November 28, 1974, two hunters discovered a woman's shoe near the intersection of Cross Hill and McDonald roads in Richmondville, approximately 5 miles south of Cobleskill where Kathleen was last seen. Investigators responded to the location and found Kathleen's partially nude body, dressed only in a red coat, laying on a stone wall in the woods.

 

Cause of death was determined to have been from multiple fatal stab wounds. Her murder described as brutal by police.

The murder location has never been located and contributed to the difficulty of investigating Kathleen's murder. 

 

Despite numerous efforts by police to keep Kathleen's case in the public eye, Kathleen's killer has remained elusive. Decades have passed. However, the detective's commitment to solving this murder case has not.

 

Through the efforts of Investigator Dave Ayers, appeals to the public have generated new leads in the case. In 2012, a billboard was placed along Route 7, publicizing a $2,500 reward through Crime Stoppers. Police are now combining the new leads with old and looking for connections which led to questioning a SUNY student, now living in Pa.

 

Kathleen's parents have both passed away without ever knowing what happened to their beautiful daughter. One thing they were both sure of - Someone Knows.
