Murder of Jeffrey Bellemare - Family Seeks Justice

Jeffrey Bellemare, 59 years old, was murdered on November 29, 2013, while working at a Maryvale, Arizona, apartment complex.

A uniformed security guard at the Graybriar Condos was patrolling the area near 55th Avenue and Indian School Road. The west side is known as a rough area, and Bellemare was only armed with pepper spray that evening.

The day after Thanksgiving, witnesses said they heard two gunshots at approximately

1:30 a.m. and rushed outside to find Bellemare on the ground with two gunshots to the chest.

An unidentified man and woman, or possibly two men, were seen fleeing the area in an older model, a light-colored sedan with a vinyl top, and possible pre-existing damage to the front end.

In a December 16, 2013, ABC 15 news report, his wife Karan Bellemare recalled knowing he faced dangers but never expect to lose her husband, “Somebody knocking on your door and telling you he is not coming home,” she emotionally recalls. “I apparently screamed loud enough for neighbors to hear at the other end of the cul-de-sac.”

Married as teenagers, Bellemare and his wife were married 34 years. “Just the loneliness. I miss seeing Jeff and hearing his voice. That has been the hardest part for me,” Karan told CBS 5.

Bellemare had retired and took the job as a security guard to have a little extra income.

Residents of Graybriar considered Bellemare a friend. “He knew everybody, he was nice to everyone,” a neighbor recalls. “If there was a problem, he’d mellow it out.”

His two sons now face a life without their father and best friend, needing answers only justice can bring. “He was a really great dad,” his son Kyle Bellemare said. “He truly was one of the best men I knew.”

“We don’t want revenge. We just want justice served,” said Karan.

Bellemare was honored by Arizona’s Private Security Guard Professional’s Committee after his death.
