The Brown County Sheriff's Office released a description of the vehicle suggesting it is a two door, full-size 1988 to 1997 Chevy or GMC truck was involved. Likely a C1500 or W/T model with glass sealed beam headlamps.

Detectives believe Demuth was hit sometime between 12:20 a.m. and 2:20 a.m. The vehicle was also traveling south on Highway 135 hitting him and knocking him approximately 140 feet killing him. Officers arrived at the scene after receiving a call from a passerby who discovered his body three miles from the festival.

Originally investigators did not know what color the truck was but tests on evidence suggest the truck or the bumper is black. They say the truck likely has front-end damage to the right headlight, passenger door mirror and possibly the windshield.

Demuth is remembered as a gentle and polite young man with a passion for music and nature, says Tina Maddox, a relative of Demuth's.

​

 

An Atherton High School graduate, Demuth also attended JCTC and the University of Louisville.

​

 

Demuth had gone to the concert with his girlfriend who left early, and at some point, he began walking south on Highway 135 which eventually intersects with Interstate 65 south to Louisville. "Then she went to get him and she couldn't find him and we really don't know exactly when he got hit," said Maddox.

​

 

"He loved music and he loved bluegrass," said Demuth's stepfather Bob Rice.

​

 

"His mother is grieving immensely over a boy or a child that she will never be able to hug or kiss or get a Christmas card from," said Rice. 

​

 

"Finding the perpetrators of this horrible deed will give some closure I'm sure," Rice told WAVE 3 News. "It's not going to give complete closure, it will never heal," Rice added. "A child dying before a parent is basically a crime against nature."

​

 

The family is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for killing Demuth.
