Unsolved Disappearance
Bonnie Bickwit, 15, went missing on July 27, 1973, hitchhiking to see a concert in Watkins Glen, New York, with her boyfriend, Mitchel "Mitch" Weiser. They were last seen hitching a ride along a highway in Narrowsburg, New York.
The couple was trying to get to the Watkins Glen Summer Jam, featuring the Allman Brothers, The Grateful Dead, and The Band. An estimated 600,000 people attended, landing the show in the Guinness Book of World Records. Over half a million attended, but Mitch and Bonnie were the only ones who didn't return home.
Years after the pair disappeared, Mitch’s father received a collect call from a person calling themselves “Bonnie.” Before the operator could connect the phone call, the caller hung up. That would be the only call he ever received.
In 2000, a witness said they had seen Bonnie and Mitch on their way to Watkins Glen. The witness had also been on his way to the concert and said he saw them getting a ride on a bus. On the bus ride, he heard them talking about Camp Wel-Met.
When Bonnie and Mitch got off the bus, they cooled off in the river. The witness claimed Bonnie started getting swept away, and when Mitch tried to help, they both were swept downstream. The bus driver said they would call the police at the nearest gas station, but the police say they are still waiting to receive a call.
